Fun Things to Do this Summer While Conserving Water

When we think about summer, our minds often wander toward spending time outdoors with the kids or activities that involve splashing about in a pool of water.

It's partly because of this that water usage soars during the summer months. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, an average family in the U.S. consumes about 320 gallons of water per day. That number can spike to 1,000 gallons per day during summer, and some families might consume up to 3,000 gallons per day. This can cause your utility bill to rise and take a toll on residential resources. Nobody wants that, but what can we do about it?

Here are three fun things to do this summer while conserving water.

Take Advantage of Community Pools

There's nothing like taking a break from the heat by dipping into a pool. It's a great way to cool off and relax while spending quality time with the family. Community pools are always staffed by lifeguards who are trained to deal with any problem. Take comfort in the fact your kids will be safe as they play with other children.

Pools are a wonderful resource that is meant to be used during hot summer days. They also save water because you're sharing it with others and not using any at home.

Cool Down While You Water Your Garden

To keep our grass green and our gardens looking wonderful, we water them regularly during summer. Why not make more efficient use of this time?

Help your family battle the heat and tend to your lawn at the same time by using your sprinkler like a water park attraction. Have everybody put on their bathing suits and jump through the water streams while the sprinkler takes care of the yard. If you don't have a sprinkler, you can use a hose instead and spray your family members while you water the garden.

Keep your lawn looking fresh while providing your family a way to cool off under the hot sun.

Play Outdoor Games

The best way to conserve water is to not use any at all. Save a lot on personal water consumption by playing or watching games/ sports as often as possible. Field sports like football, baseball and soccer don't require the use of water.

Playing catch or throwing a football while your kids pretend to be JJ Watt can keep the whole family occupied and away from using water at home. This is an easy and fun way to help conserve water.
